As a graduating Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student, we are requires to perform an On the Job Training as partial fulfilment in our Degree. We were tasked to process and find for the government agency where to perform an OJT by our on. It is like hunting for a job that we must be vigilant, be walk-in applicants, write to companies and firms, and ask with our relatives and friends. It was not an easy task. And time and effort were used, patience is needed and of course great determination and motivation is a must.

          We had spent 100 hours performing the On the Job Training at the Roxas City Treasurer’s Office located at the ground floor building of Roxas City Municipal Hall. Our work was to retrieve files from the file cabinet, review and write it again in another record or in short, we were tasked to manage files. The office is always busy. Many people of different barangays visits the office to ask for different credentials and documents for their own purposes. Money is the main involved in the office for it is the one who manage, oversee, and handles money of the Roxas City people and establishments.

          After the hard time in managing those files, we engaged ourselves to go to different business establishments in Roxas City to do the tax mapping. We’ve been to Baybay Beach, Culasi, Dumolog, and some part of Boulevard. Our task was to record the name of establishment, name of owner and update if the said establishment have already paid their tax accounts and beyond.

          We learned many things from that experience. We’ve encountered different people and engaged ourselves into the field of business. What the saying states is true, “Learn from your experience”.

          The “Seafood Capital of the Philippines”: Roxas City, the second and capital city of the province of Capiz. It is the first district and has 47 barangays. It is 20 minutes away from the municipality of Ivisan. It was founded in year 1693 as town of Capis and became Roxas City in year 1951. Presently, Roxas City been a three-time recipient of the Regional Cleanest and Greenest Component City in Western Visayas Award of the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Program of the national government.

        Roxas City is located at the northeastern tip of the island of Panay.  It is the center of trade and business in Capiz. It is where essentials government and private establihments ere ca be found. Notable people came from the city like present Sen. Mar Roxas, Manuel Roxas, was the first President of the independent Republic of the Philippines, Josefa Abiertas, first woman bar topnotcher and proponent of the Women’s Suffrage Bill, General Esteban Contreras, revolutionary leader during the Philippine-American War, Gerardo Roxas, Philippine Senator and son of President Manuel Roxas, and Manuel Roxas II, Philippine Senator and grandson of President Manuel Roxas. For being known as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines and as its name implies, Roxas City is rich and abundant in aquatic resources. Fresh and delicious fish, crabs, shrimps and the most famous is the “Diwal” (Angel wing clam). It is also known for exporting dried fish like “tabagak”, dried pusit, canned seafood exported outside the country and so many others. It is almost where the main source of living of its people depends on. The means of transportation used are jeepneys for long distances and tricycle for short distances. Almost of its people owned a private vehicle for their convenience to commute.

         Roxas City is celebrating “Sinadya sa Halaran” every first week of December in honor of the founding city. This celebration is sub-divided distinctly into two: Halaran (“Offering”) and the Sinadya (“Celebration”). Halaran is celebrated by Roxas City together the Feast of Immaculate Concepcion Metropolitan Cathedral and Sinadya are celebrated by the Province of Capiz. But these two tremendous events were merged as one with funds contributed by Roxas City and Capiz for it acquires big amount of budget. It is then followed by the “Diwal Festival” introducing and displaying the “Angel wing clam” or diwal. It emphasizes the title as being the “Seafood Capital”. The next is the “Aswang Festival” which signifies the rich culture, arts, myths and folklore of Capiz.

         Roxas City has the “Baybay Beach” (Brgy. Culasi),“Flatrock Resort” (Brgy. Culasi), and the “Capiz Bay” (Brgy.Dayao)to captivate tourism in Capiz. It a place where anyone could relax, breathe the fresh air and enjoy. Gaisano City-Roxas is the only mall in Roxas City. Some business establishments that people could shop are “Carol Square Plaza and Superstar Bazaar”, “City Square”, “Black and White”, “Injap Supermart” and “TATC public market where the main products and necessities are found. It has also a lot of hotel that tourists could stay. Some are “MVW Hotel and Resataurant”, “Nesta’s Hilltop Hotel”, “La Hacienda Hotel”, “Midtown Hotel”, “Roxas President’s Inn” and a lot more.

           Roxas City has everything to offer. Its aquatic resources and wonders that are rich and abundant will captivate tourism in Capiz and make it as main tourist destination.

We had a trip from Roxas City to Manila last August 31, 2008 to attend a 4-day IT Convention in U.P Diliman, Quezon City. Different stories were made along.Riding in a RORO Gasat Bus was so devastating. We used to transfer from bus to ships and vice-versa. The bus experience was pretty much okay but the ship experience was not. These made us tired and hungry in waiting for the departure of the ship going to the next destination.  We were not able to sit, lie to sleep and relax. How could we do this? For the ship was loaded of passengers and unavailability of chairs sand beds occurred. The massive amount of passengers will really suffocate anybody.

          But thanks God, we arrived in Manila! It was the start of our unending happiness and eagerness to see everything what’s in there. There was no doubt why Manila was declared as the Capital City of the Philippines. For everything you wished and wanted was there. Malls, high buildings, big establishments, latest cars, foreigners, artists, big schools and many more can be found there. We really enjoyed everything from small to big things in Manila. It seemed that we won’t go back to Roxas City and just stay there until we want.

          We focused mainly on these things instead focusing on the IT Convention which was the reason why we’re there. The convention was also great! Great topics, great speakers, great number of delegates attended. But the reception where it was held, snacks, time, congress kits, I don’t think so.

          Becoming a college student is not a simple thing. After the development days in high school, you are about to cross over to the hardest level which is the college life. You are about to face two vital facts and issues in choosing for the right career to pursue which includes what course suits best your interest and what school you will be compatible. This will be your stepping stone to success.

          College life is more on being independent, despite of the saying’ “No man is an island.” You should work and decide for your self. You should make your performance always in an excellent level. Expect that will be much paper works, research, seminars, fieldtrips and other school related activities that will help improve your personality, skills and knowledge. Remember, you will be dealing in to different people with different personalities and how they see and handle their college life. College life is also like a treasure that can be discovered, so, don’t cease from seeking it. And eventually you will find it easy and it follows you.

          The most essential thing in college is that you have the passion on whatever career you’ve chosen and love your craft. Always look forward on your future success.

As a college student, I can’t deny the fact that I really enjoy computer gaming. And that’s not only me, but also my other co-filamerian students. We urge to know what the latest computer games are and try to explore it until such in a way that we completely familiarize the flow. We want to be always on the track. This habit do affects on the people around us but it’s our prerogative to do what we want.  We rather use our allowance in paying for playing online in the internet café than buying foods for us to eat. So, our games always ended-up with an empty tummy. We often scolded by our parents in coming home late, and asking big amount of money. Sometimes, we do sacrifice our studies; I mean not attending classes if we have a game showdown. And we really don’t want to miss it.

 Once, playing computer games endangered my health. I was confined in the hospital because of no exercise and too much radiation. I’m just sitting steadily, always hungry and sleeping late at night. It devastated me. But this was never been a hindrance and never cease me from playing. In fact, my love for computer games is just growing tremendously.

Computer gaming makes us develop our personality for it helps us acquire new friends and learn new things. It helps us adjust into different people with distinct character traits and how to work as a team. Most importantly it will enable us to discover new techniques and how to use this wisely.

Generally, I and we are computer game addicts.
